Norsafe conventional lifeboats
Norsafe conventional lifeboats are used all over the world, both on ships and offshore installations.

The smallest boats in the lifeboat range are approved both as lifeboats and rescue boats. Our largest totally enclosed lifeboat (TELB) has a capacity of 136 people and is the largest on the market.

All boats and associated equipment have been approved in accordance with Solas 1983/96 and subsequent amendments and EC labelled in accordance with the Marine Equipment Directive.

Totally Enclosed Motor Lifeboat (TELB) designed and built accordingly to rules and regulations of SOLAS83, amendments 96, Classification Societies and National Authorities. Hull, superstructure, buoyant tanks, water and provision containers are made of fire-retardant GRP. The hull and superstructure are moulded into one unit. Together with the inner liner structure, the design forms a double skin boat preventing water from flooding the cabin if the outer hull should be damaged. The boat is equipped with ON/OFF Load lifting hooks which are controlled from a release handle mounted at the steering position.

Hooks will release simultaneously when the craft is fully waterborne. Emergency release of the hooks is possible but the system is secured against accidential release. The fire protecting spray system pump takes sea water from the lowest possible location under the boat. The spray system provides water over the entire surface of the craft (1,200 l/min). The compressed air system has sufficient capacity to provide air for the maximum number of personnel and engine combustion for a minimum of 10 minutes. The over-pressure inside the boat prevent ingress of toxic fumes or gas. Provisions have been made to recharge the air system from the ship's compressed air system.

Firetest

Norsafe carried out a firetest in cooperation with SINTEF a few years agao. A lifeboat was lowered in an oil boom, filled with 4000litres of kerosene in a 10cm thick layer on the water. The kerasine was lighted with gasoline which led to the boat beeing completely enclosed in flames for 10 minutes. SINTEF measured temperatures up to 1200ºC 10cm from the hull side. Inside the temperature was measured at 27ºC. The test lasted 11,5minutes, and the air quality inside was very good during the whole test. The reason why the boats can whithstand theste temperatures is because of the external sprinkler system, which covers the entire boat in water. Air bottles service the engine and passangers with fresh air.
